The opinion stated in this blog is just that, an opinion. It should not be taken for medical advice.

One of the most tasteless ads on TV and that is a very, very low bar – is the Plavix ad where a gurney follows around a woman who has had a heart attack and implies that if you don’t take Plavix, you are going to have another heart attack and die. Soon. Maybe even before you get a chance to putt. (Look how close that gurney is.)

I had a heart attack five years ago, and this series of ads still makes me anxious and upset. I immediately switch channels and can’t do it fast enough. For me, my immediate response to seeing this kind of ad is that the last thing I would want to do (before my last putt) would be to buy Plavix– any company that would stoop this low doesn’t deserve my business.

I know that savvy companies monitor the Internet, Twitter, and other social media to protect their brand. I am sure one of their legal eagles and brand protectors are reading this. Plavix is made by Bristol-Myers Squibb in conjunction with Sanofi-Aventis. This tasteless TV ad is bad publicity for your company, Bristol-Myers Squibb.

I would be more than happy to post your response to this, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and talk with any of your attorneys.

And ask me about Plavix. I’m a doctor.
